Michelle Walker has been a member of Voices New Zealand Chamber Choir since 2013. She was conferred a BMus in Voice in 2010 from Otago University under the tutelage of Isabel Cunningham. She is a New Zealand Secondary Students’ Choir alumni (2005-2006). She has performed with Opera Otago and with several musical theatre companies. Her previous roles include Narrator Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Westend to Broadway, Tonina First the Music then the words, Baroness Sound of Music, and Carlotta The Phantom of the Opera, for which she was nominated Best Supporting Actress at the Otago Southland Theatre Awards (2015). She was a soloist at the Southland Last Night of the Proms and recently performed in concert alongside Rebecca Ryan and David McMeeking with the Invercargill Symphonia (June 2017).
Maria Winder is a current member of the University of Auckland Chamber Choir, the choir she first joined as a student in 1983.
She sang with Voices NZ from 2001-2006 and has sung in several other celebrated NZ choirs, including The Auckland Dorian Choir and Viva Voce.
Maria co-authored ‘Hear Our Voices’, a new choral resource, published by NZ Choral Federation for leaders of children’s choirs. She is the music specialist teacher at Ellerslie School in Auckland and is the director of The Sound of Music Education, providing workshops and music education advice and management for teachers.
Maria has been conducting massed choirs for the APPA Music Festival since 2004. Maria formerly worked for Victoria University in Wellington and subsequently, The University of Auckland as the Music Advisor to Primary Schools. She is the Director of Music Education and a founding trustee of the NZ Ukulele Trust.
Luana has sung in choirs since high school, when she was fortunate to tour with Key Cygnetures under the direction of Elise Bradley. Her journey in singing has taken her through the NZ Secondary Students’ Choir, NZ Youth Choir, Cappella vocal ensemble, and Auckland Chamber Choir.
Having completed a conjoint degree in Performance Voice and German language, she has worked as a teacher of music, vocal coach, and choir consultant. She feels privileged to now also direct a number of high school choirs in Auckland, and help develop the next generation of choral singers.
Jo is from Nelson and currently lives in Wellington.
As an award winning pianist and singer, Fiona has an established reputation as an accompanist, repetiteur, musical director, orchestral, vocal and choral musician. Working with many acclaimed musicians worldwide, she brings a wealth of experience and passion to her music making across many genres, performing early music to music theatre and everything in between. To keep things interesting, Fiona completed a Masters in Counselling and Applied Psychotherapy in Sydney in 2014.
Emma began her singing training at the University of Otago, graduating with a BA and Bmus (hons) in Voice. She then completed a Professional Performance Diploma at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, UK (PPRNCM). Emma has been a regular concert soloist and is a member of the New Zealand Opera Chorus. She is also an experienced singing teacher, vocal coach, and high school English and Drama teacher.
Amelia Giles is a versatile musician who is active in both the New Zealand instrumental and choral communities. She began her instrumental musical studies at the age of three through the Suzuki method, with choral involvement beginning first in elite secondary school ensembles, and then in New Zealand National Youth choir from 1996 – 2004.
After the completion of a MMus in both ‘Modern’ and Baroque violin performance in 2003 followed by a period of orchestral work, Amelia changed careers and trained as a primary school teacher. She currently works at ‘St Cuthbert’s College’ in Auckland as a full time classroom music specialist, string specialist, and orchestra, choir and chamber ensemble director.
When she is not in the classroom, Amelia performs as both an orchestral and choral musician in a wide range of ensembles including NZ Barok, ‘Auckland Choral’s ‘Piper’s Sinfonia’, Bach Musica, The Auckland Chamber Choir, and since 2010 as a pool member of ‘Voices NZ’
Sharon is a Psychologist who specialises in supporting people with Autism, Learning Disabilties and Developmental Delays. She has had vocal coaching for a number of years and also sings with Bach Musica.
Originally from Hawke’s Bay, Phoebe attended Napier Girls’ High School and the Eastern Institute of Technology. She now studies and teaches Economics at Victoria University of Wellington.
Phoebe learned piano from the age of 4 and her passion for choral singing began as a young chorister at St John’s Cathedral in Napier. She was a member of the New Zealand Secondary Students’ Choir that toured South Africa in 2012. Now based in Wellington, Phoebe sings in the Tudor Consort and the choir of Wellington Cathedral of St Paul.
Megan Flint has a background in both education and music as a teacher, conductor and singer. She is active within Music Education New Zealand Aotearoa (MENZA) and the Association of Choral Directors (ACD) as a board member.
Megan has a passion for working with treble choirs and is the co-author of Hear Our Voices, a handbook for leaders of children’s choirs. She is a national conducting mentor for the New Zealand Choral Federation, presenting their Singing Matters programmes for primary school song leaders. Megan sings with Voices New Zealand and conducts a community choir in Taupō, New Zealand.
Megan directs the activities of Kodály Aotearoa and her commitment to ‘music for all’ guides her passion for music education. A current doctoral candidate in music education, she is committed to ensuring that all teachers and students can access and acquire knowledge and experiences that enable them to engage with music knowledgeably: as performers, creators, listeners and innovators.
